Nyerere Safari Tours | Transfers & Rentals

Nyerere Safari Tours : One of the largest protected spaces in Africa, Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) is a fabulous, beautiful world of big cats, big elephants and big herds of wildlife.

The landscape here is also something special, with a beguiling mix of the mighty Rufiji River, palm-fringed lakes, deep gorges and wild woodlands.

The Selous, as most locals still call it, has a refreshingly wild feel about it, and it’s nicely removed from the crowds that you often get in the parks of Tanzania’s Northern safari circuit.

In fact, this is one of few places in East Africa where you can enjoy the region’s famous safari trails in relative peace, and where each wildlife encounter still feels like a real discovery.

HOW TO GET TO NYERERE NATIONAL PARK

Nyerere National Park ( formerly Selous Game Reserve) is Tanzania’s largest national park. The lifeblood of this vast wilderness is the mighty Rufiji River and a network of interconnected lakes. The abundant water supports huge numbers of crocodiles and hippos, which you’ll get scarily close to on boat trips, and also attracts plenty of elephants, buffalo and other wildlife. Early morning  offer the best chance to see some lion action.

Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam is the main international airport and entry to the country. In most cases, your tour operator will pick you up and handle all further arrangements.

Many people fly to Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), but a road safari is also a good option. The 230km/143mi drive from Dar es Salaam to Mtemere Gate takes about 5 hours*.
